Democracy Is Dead In America

a government by the people; especially :rule of the majority
a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections
a political unit that has a democratic government
the common people especially when constituting the source of political authority
the absence of hereditary or arbitrary class distinctions or privileges

[O]ne thing we learned over the past couple of decades is that the Power is obviously NOT vested in the people. We the people are allowed to choose from the available candidates in local and nation elections, but those candidate are chosen by for us by either the Republican Party or The Democratic Party.

In fact the only candidate who was not “chosen for us” was Donald J. Trump. That was because he had the money to fund his own campaign and had some name recognition. Otherwise, we the people are presented with Candidates who have made their bones, stealing a expression used by organized crime syndicates, which is probably appropriate here. Normally the process goes something like this…an individual engages in some sort of political activity. If that individual is someone who is willing to play ball [vote a certain way or can be useful to one party or another] and decides to run for a political office, and the Party [Democrat or Republican] feels that person can be useful to their party and agenda they will support that party using funds contributed by interest groups, lobbyist and the smallest amounts…being funds donated by the American people. The biggest donors, or course, expect something for their “donations”.

So while the American people get to choose from a few people picked for us to choose from, we do not necessarily get to choose from the best people for the job. In-Fact, we are usually stuck with picking the best of the worst.

When the Country was founded it did not take millions or hundreds of millions of dollars to tun a campaign. A person could put a sign on a wagon and travel around giving public speeches in town squares and such. The “common man” could actual run a campaign with little money. The support of the local town crier or printer / news publisher didn’t hurt. Now we have Social Media [which greatly helped Donald Trump] and national media on television and cable. Getting the word out and speaking to the public at large cost millions of dollars….something most people just can not afford, especially if you do not have some very rich friends!

Need evidence that American is no longer a Democracy? Take the JFK Files and Papers for example. The “Government Bureaucracy” decided that the American public could not see those documents for 25 yrs. , we, the American people who’s “Government” it is and who they are ment to serve, were not allowed to see the documents surrounding one of our presidents assassination.
